Professional Development Workshop

In conjunction with the 2018 Journal of Management Studies (JMS) conference on Diversity Perspective on Management: Towards Core Complex Conceptualizations of Diversity in Management Studies, the editors of JMS will also be conducting a professional development workshop for doctoral candidates. The workshop will take place on Friday, 20th April 2018 at Babson College and is aimed at doctoral students in any management-related discipline.

The doctoral workshop will focus on professional development with a particular emphasis on strategies for successful publishing. The workshop will include presentations by experienced editors and reviewers, as well as focused discussions on key topics related to publishing. Planned sessions include:

  • Understanding the Review Process
  • Writing and Positioning Papers for Impact
  • Managing an Academic Career

We invite all those interested to submit an expression of interest (maximum two pages). This should include information on:

  • your field of research
  • your specific topic area
  • the stage in your PhD program  
  • the reasons you are interested in attending
  • the name and contact details of one of your supervisors

Send ‘expressions of interest’ to Margaret Turner via email at business.jms@durham.ac.uk no later than 16.00 GMT on Friday, 17th November 2017. Places are limited to 20 participants. Attendees will be selected based on their ‘expression of interest’ document. Selected participants may also attend the full conference.

Accommodation, if required, will be provided free of charge for one night at Babson College. A limited number of bursaries (i.e., financial support) will be offered by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) towards travel expenses.
